In this class you will learn how to accurately describe a flower, identify botanical art, learn basic plant morphology, and the basic skills needed to create an accurate drawing of a plant or flower.
Advance registration is required.
Materials List
- 2B-4B pencils (soft pencils are preferred)
- Plastic white eraser (a kneaded eraser is acceptable but not prefered)
- Pencil sharpener
- Instructor will provide paper
Meet Your Instructor
Carol Ashton-Hergenhan received her BA from the Philadelphia College of Art and went on to study at Temple University’s Tyler School of Art, earning a masters’ degree in media from Temple. She is an award winning botanical artist and a Master Gardener for whom plants have always been central to her art. She is published author and teacher in the Philadelphia area.
She continued her post graduate art education through private study of Chinese watercolor techniques with Phoebe Shih (Shih Hwei-Yueh) and also studied botanical watercolors at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. A Master Gardener, plants have always been central to her art. She has exhibited in national and international botanical and fine art shows where she has won several awards.
Carol is a Fellow of the American Artists Professional League, a Signature Member of the Philadelphia Watercolor Society, an inducted member in the Philadelphia Sketch Club, a Life Member of the Philadelphia Society of Botanical Illustrators and a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists.
