Prerequisites: Botanical Drawing I and II
This class will explore the fundamentals of watercolor for botanical art, focusing on a six color palette. Instruction and demonstrations by Kelly Sverduk will cover confidently mixing a wide range of colors, brush and paint handling techniques, and using the transparent nature of watercolor to depict botanical and natural subjects.
Please pack a snack or lunch. Participats must be 16 years or older.

- Paint:
- Winsor & Newton Artists’ Water Colour Yellow Deep 5 ml tube
- Winsor & Newton Artists’ Water Colour Lemon 5 ml tube
- Winsor & Newton Artists’ Water Colour Blue (green shade) 5 ml tube
- Winsor & Newton Artists’ Water Colour Permanent Rose 5 ml tube
- Winsor & Newton Artists’ Water Colour Scarlet Lake 5 ml tube
- M. Graham Cobalt Blue 5 ml tube
- Brushes:
- Robert Simmons White Sable (round sizes 2 and 6) or Winsor & Newton Sceptre Gold II (round sizes 2 and 6)
- Palettes:
- Small porcelain watercolor palette (7-well flower palette, for example) and/or white porcelain/ceramic dinner plate
- T-shirt or other lintless rag for cleaning brushes
- Clear plastic or glass container for water
- Tracing paper
Watercolor paper will be provided.
Meet Your Instructor
Botanical artist Kelly Sverduk specializes in watercolor and is passionate about making and teaching art. With a background in both art and natural sciences, she finds the field of botanical illustration to perfectly mesh her interests. Kelly holds a B.A. in studio art from Messiah College and a certificate in botanical art from the Brookside Gardens School of Botanical Art and Illustration. She lives with her family in Greenwood, DE
