Viburnum nudum (smooth witherod viburnum)

Possumhaw or smooth witherod is a deciduous flowering shrub that tolerates difficult growing conditions. It thrives in wet to moist soil and full sun to part shade. White flowers emerge in May and June. Distinctive colorful berries are eaten by wildlife. Lustrous green leaves turn red to reddish purple in Fall. Smooth witherod viburnum reaches 5–12' in height and width.

Possumhaw is native to North America south to Florida and west to Wisconsin. The fruit is eaten by various wildlife. Deer browse the foliage. It is a larval host to spring azures and hummingbird clearwing moths.
