Solidago odora (sweet goldenrod)

sweet goldenrod (1 gallon)

Sweet goldenrod is easily identified by its anise-scented leaves. Plants typically grow to 2–4’ tall on smooth or downy stems. Leaves may be used in teas. Branched, plume-like clusters of yellow, daisy-like flowers bloom in August and September. Easily grown in average, dry to medium, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. Tolerates poor, dry soils and light shade, but performs best in full sun. This species is primarily clump-forming and does not spread aggressively, as do some other goldenrod species and hybrids. Like all goldenrods, this is a great late-season pollinator plant.

Sweet goldenrod is native to the U.S. and Mexico. It is found in savannas, pinelands, and dry woods. Attracts birds, native bees, and honeybees. Also attracts insects that prey on insect pests.
