The zigzag goldenrod is a very upright and clump-forming perennial that reaches no more than 3' in height. This woodland type of goldenrod will bloom bright yellow from late Summer into the Fall. Prefers partial to full shade in dry soils. Tolerates deer, heavy shade, and clay soil.
Zigzag goldenrod is native to eastern North America, where it is found in rich woods and thickets. As a keystone plant species, goldenrod supports a diverse array of pollinators and serves as a host plant to a great number of butterflies and moths. Considered to have special value to native bees and honey bees. The seeds are eaten by both songbirds and game birds.
