Sanguinaria canadensis (bloodroot)

bloodroot (quart)

Bloodroot is typically found in partly shaded woods. It has a delicate white flower in March and April and uniquely lobed leaves that when cut seep a reddish sap. Bloodroot can tolerate growing around Black Walnut trees and once established can tolerate drought. Over time, this plant will gradually spread. Ants actually help to disperse the seeds.
