Virginia rose is a small deciduous flowering shrub, the most common wild rose in eastern North America. It is fast-growing, reaching 4–6’. Its tall, upright stems are covered in numerous hooked prickles. Single fragrant pink flowers appear in June and bloom over a long period in midsummer. Fruit is small, round, and bright red, rich in vitamin C and edible, being used to make jams and tea. Fall color is yellow, orange, scarlet, crimson, and brown. Easily grown in full sun in acidic soil. Salt tolerant. Used as specimen or mass planting. In cultivation, has been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. 

Virginia rose is native to coastal areas in eastern Canada and eastern U.S. as far south as Virginia. It attracts birds, bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Provides nesting materials/structure for native bees.
