Quercus bicolor (swamp white oak)

swamp white oak (7 gallon')

Swamp white oak is a medium-sized, deciduous tree with a broad, rounded crown and a short trunk which reaches a height of 60–80'. This lowland tree is found in moist to swampy locations, along streams, valleys, floodplains and at the edge of swamps, but also has surprisingly good drought resistance. Has become a poular landscaping tree in recent years due to its relative ease of transplanting. Grows rapidly. Leaves turns brown, yellow-brown, or sometimes reddish in Fall. Acorns mature about six months after pollination. Swamp white oak may live up to 300 years.

Oaks are the most valuable trees you can plant for hosting butterflies and moths and in turn feeding birds. Acorns are an important food source in Fall for a variety of birds and mammals.
