Join us for an afternoon poetry reading with Catherine Carter, author of By Stone and Needle (LSU Press, 2025). Acclaimed poet and long-time friend of the Arboretum, Catherine returns to share selections from her new collection.

Meet the Author
Living and teaching in Cullowhee, North Carolina, at Western Carolina University, Catherine Carter shares quarters with a spouse, one cat, and some wild things (mice, birds, insects, weeds). She grew up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, a more coastal environment than the mountains of NC, but just as rural, and her poems tend to reflect that. Living in the mountains has taught her to whitewater kayak, keep some backyard bees, split wood, and do a little canning and preserving on occasion.
