Eupatorium perfoliatum (boneset)
boneset (quart)
Boneset is easily grown in average, medium to wet soils in full sun to part shade. Does well in both sandy and clay soils. Needs constant moisture. Flat-topped clusters of small, fluffy white flowers appear above the foliage late summer to fall. Grows to 3–6' tall. Historically, boneset was commonly included in medical herb gardens and used as a folk medicine for a variety of maladies. All parts of the plant are quite toxic and bitter. Late bloomer for borders, native plant gardens, wildflower gardens, cottage gardens, woodland gardens, or banks of ponds or water gardens.
Boneset is native to eastern North America. It is found in damp prairies, alluvial woods, and bogs. Flowers attract birds and butterflies. Attracts large numbers of native bees and supports conservation biological control by attracting insects that prey upon pest insects.
