Carex crinita (fringed sedge)

fringed sedge (quart)

Fringed sedge is a semi-evergreen sedge that grows best in full sun to part shade in moist to wet soils––it can even tolerate standing water. Plant fringed sedge in low wet spots, wet meadows, or along water margins. Spreads by rhizomes to form large colonies. This sedge blooms (not showily) in May and June and gives way to seeds that attract birds. This sedge is a good choice for erosion control and rain gardens.

Fringed sedge is native to central and eastern U.S. It is found primarily in wet meadows, swamps, sloughs, marshes, and bogs. Attracts birds.
