Campanulastrum americanum (American bellflower)

American bellflower (1 gallon)

American bellflower is a striking native wildflower that thrives in rich, well-drained, yet moist soils. This erect annual/biennial's stems are lined witih showy, lavender-blue, five-petaled flowers from June to August. It is an unusual bellflower in that its flowers are usually flat and not bell-shaped. These plants appreciate part shade in the hot summer or can tolerate full sun in cooler summers. Bellflower is short-lived, but will readily self-seed and naturalize in a garden or landscape. It can grow to 2–6' tall. Impressive when planted in clusters, especially when the tall, spiky flowers are in the foreground of taller dark green plants.

American bellflower, native to eastern North America, is found in moist woods, along shady streams and in thickets. It attracts a variety of pollinators, including bees, wasps, butterflies, and hummingbirds, and is primarily pollinated by long-tongued bees.
