Prerequisites: Botanical Drawing 1 and 2, Colored Pencil 1
Dive deeper into the study of colored pencils with instruction from Kelly Sverduk to create form and depict details on a variety of botanical subjects. Methods of underpainting will be explored, and various paper surfaces will be introduced to offer a range of interesting artistic options.
Bring a packed lunch if desired.
Advance registration is required.
Materials List
- Color Pencils: In order to start everyone with the same colors, instructor will provide a basic set of Faber Castell Polychromos pencils for each student. (Students may purchase these sets for approximately $22, if desired.)
- Sketching paper
- Graphite pencils: 2H, H, HB
- Kneaded eraser
- Tomboy Mono Zero Eraser
- Faber Castell Grip Trio Pencil Sharpener or another good sharpener made to accommodate
wide color pencil barrels - Ruler
- Circle Drawing Template: Approx 4.5 inches in diameter, can be Helix Angle and Circle Maker or basic round plastic template (Available on Amazon for $5.)
- Paper: Strathmore Bristol 400 series, smooth or vellum surface, 9x12
- 3-ring binder for handouts
- Eraser shield and embossing tools are optional (Instructor will bring some to share.)
Meet Your Instructor
Botanical artist Kelly Sverduk specializes in watercolor and is passionate about making and teaching art. With a background in both art and natural sciences, she finds the field of botanical illustration to perfectly mesh her interests. Kelly holds a B.A. in studio art from Messiah College and a certificate in botanical art from the Brookside Gardens School of Botanical Art and Illustration. She lives with her family in Greenwood, DE
