University of Maryland Extension Recommended Native Plant

Lady fern is very hardy, and very easy to grow. It reaches 1'–2' tall in part to full shade in moist soil. Light green with feathery, finely divided fronds. It sometimes has touches of red on the stems. Lady fern grows in circular clusters. Good for shaded borders and woodland gardens. The young fronds are edible after cooking.

Lady fern is native to temperate Asia, Europe, North Africa, Canada, and the U.S. It is often one of the more common ferns in damp, shady woodland environments.
