Aster ericoides (Symphyotrichum ericoides) 'Snow Flurry'
heath aster (quart)
'Snow Flurry' is a prostrate cultivar of white heath aster that grows only to 6" high compared with the 1–3' tall straight species. It spreads vigorously about a foot to form a dense foliage mat. White flowers with yellow centers bloom in September and October, giving butterflies a much needed nectar source. It does best in full sun and dry to moist soils but generally tolerates poorer soils and drought once established. Mildew resistant. Excellent in rock gardens and as a ground cover in perennial borders and open woodland gardens.
White heath aster is native to much of the U.S. It is found in open rocky woods, prairies and along roads and railroads. Attracts pollinators and songbirds. Because of its spreading habit, also is useful for erosion control.
