Asclepias syriaca (common milkweed)

common milkweed (1 gallon)

Common milkweed produces beautiful and highly fragrant pink puffy blooms in June through August. It thrives in full sun in dry to moist soils. This milkweed will grow to 3' tall and will reseed. Spreads aggressively from rhizomes and may not be suited to small gardens and formalized plantings.

Common milkweed is native to much of North America. Its native habitat is old fields, roadsides, and disturbed areas. Attracts butterflies and is a larval host for the monarch butterfly. More than 450 insect species feed on this milkweed, including flies, beetles, ants, bees, wasps, and butterflies. Supports conservation biological control by attracting predatory or parasitoid insects that prey upon insect pests.
