Amsonia tabernaemontana 'Blue Ice' (eastern blue star)
eastern blue star (1 gallon)
Amsonia 'Blue Ice' has delightfully deep blue starry flowers that are darker than the straight species. It grows to about 1–2' tall and wide and does well in full sun to part shade with medium moisture. 'Blue Ice' blooms in May, but is the gift that keeps on giving as it offers beautiful bright yellow fall color. This particular cultivar is more compact than the straight species. Does not need to be cut back after flowering, and it can also be used as an edging plant. Best when massed.
Eastern bluestar is found in central and eastern North America. Its native habitat is wet, sandy sites in thin woods and on plans. Deer tend to avoid. Attracts pollinators.
