Amsonia hubrichtii (narrow-leaf blue star)
narrow-leaf blue star (1 gallon)
Hubricht's bluestar is an erect, clump-forming perennial with delicate foliage and attractive blue flowers. Grows up to 3' tall in full sun in normal to dry soil conditions. Its light blue flowers adorn the fine, needle-like foliage in early summer. The leaves turn a golden brown in fall. Good for borders, open woodland areas, and cottage gardens. Note: Best fall color occurs in full sun but flowers last longer with some afternoon shade. Too much shade causes stems to flop over. Cut back to 6 inches after flowering to shape plants into a mound.
Hubricht's bluestar is native to Oklahoma and Arkansas in south-central U.S. Conspicuous flowers attract butterflies and other pollinators.
