Agastache foeniculum (anise hyssop)
anise hyssop (1 gallon)
Anise hyssop is of the most ornamental native mints. It offers beautiful purple blooms between June and September attracting a variety of butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds. It performs best in full sun and well-drained, dry to medium moisture soils. Due to its minty family relations, anise hyssop will spread and self-seed given good growing conditions. It can grow to about 2–3' tall and 1–3' wide. Fragrant leaves can be dried for use in teas and potpourri. Deer and drought tolerant.
Anise hyssop is native to much of north-central and northern North America, notably the Great Plains and other prairies. It is considered one of the premier plants for feeding pollinators because its flowers may bloom from June until frost. Attracts butterflies, hummingbirds, and large numbers of native bees.
