Did you know that the State of Maryland is working toward a goal of planting 5 million native trees across our small state by the year 2031? This effort is known as the “5 Million Trees for Maryland” initiative. In an effort to meet today’s challenges of increased development pressure and climate change, the State of Maryland has made a historic investment in expanding tree planting opportunities for Marylanders. There are a range of programs to assist landowners and community groups with tree planting projects of any scale, and the Maryland Forest Service has a team of regionally assigned specialists who can work with you to identify the appropriate funding and technical assistance. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved with the 5 Million Tree Initiative, whether through tree planting, tree maintenance, or seed collection.

Haley Rhodes is an ISA-certified arborist and Tree Planting Specialist with the Maryland Forest Service. With a Forestry degree from Allegany College of Maryland and a passion for the outdoors, Haley is dedicated to implementing the state's 5 Million Tree Initiative.
