Liatris spicata 'Floristan White' (blazing star)

1 Quart

Currently out of stock

This cultivar has the same beautiful spires of Blazing Star, but as the name indicates, the flowers are white instead of purple. The blooms appear July through September on this clump-forming perennial. It is best planted in full sun, with moist sandy loams. It does not tolerate wet soil in Winter. Works well individually in a border, contrasting with mounded and broad-leaf plants. Sweeps of plantings also work well in informal gardens.

Blazing Star is native to eastern North America, where it grows in moist prairies and sedge meadows. The flowers attract butterflies and beneficial insects, as well as bees, hummingbird moths, and hummingbirds. Caterpillars of the rare glorioius flower moth and liatris flower moth feed on the flowers and seeds. Groundhogs, rabbits, and voles also eat the plants. Deer are less likely to eat this plant.
