Woodland sunflower is one of the earlier flowering helianthuses. Its showy yellow flowers bloom from July through September. It prefers part shade and dry soil but will tolerate well-drained soil that's medium in moisture. It tolerates drought. Woodland sunflower can grow to 2–6' tall. Has a vigorous spreading habit in a good site.
Woodland sunflower is native to central and eastern North America. It commonly occurs in dry, relatively open sites. Attracts birds and butterflies.
