Sweet-scented Joe Pye weed is a tall perennial that is an outstanding ornamental plant in a coastal garden, cottage garden, or pollinator garden. It typically grows to 4–7' tall and produces beautiful mauve-pink flowers that are arranged into a dome measuring up to 12–18" across. The vanilla-scented flowers bloom from summer to early fall. The seed heads persist into winter, making the plant is a good structural element in your garden. Prefers full sun to partial shade and moist, well-drained to occasionally wet soils. Intolerant of dry soils. If cut back before early July, the plant will rebloom and have stockier and sturdier stems. Highly resistant to deer and rabbits.

Joe Pye weed is native to eastern and central North America, where it is found along roadsides, in moist prairies, thickets, woodland borders, shaded riverbanks, or on wooded slopes. It is an important source of honey, attracting pollinators by the score. It also attracts birds.
