Chamaecyparis thyoides (white cedar)

white cedar (2 gallon)

Atlantic white cedar, also known as white cypress or swamp cedar, is a columnar evergreen conifer with a steeple-like crown that typically grows with a straight trunk to 30–50'. Easily grown in average, moist, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. Shelter the white cedar from strong winds. Cedars don't like to touch, so make sure to plant it with enough room for it to spread out.

Atlantic White Cedar grows in a narrow coastal belt from southern Maine to northern Florida and west to southern Mississippi. In Maryland, it is found in fresh water swamps and along streams on the Coastal Plain and on the southern Eastern Shore. It is a host plant for Hessel's hairstreak and the bald cypress sphinx moth.
