How to Measure Your Big Tree - October 2

Wednesday, October 2
10 a.m.–12:30 p.m.

Ever want to know how tall a tree is? How to measure the circumference? How to measure the crown? These are three components of measuring a Maryland Big Tree. In this workshop, you will be introduced to the equipment and the techniques needed to measure your big tree and learn how to nominate your tree.

Chuck Gustin is a retired environmental educator with 30 years of teaching experience. He was a Calvert County Forestry Board member, where he learned about the Maryland Big Tree program and began to measure nominated trees for Calvert County residents. He enjoys stream surveying for macroinvertebrates to monitor the health of local waters, monitoring submerged grasses, performing population studies of trees in forests, and kayaking.
