Eutrochium maculatum (Eupatorium maculatum) 'Gateway' (Joe-Pye weed)

1 Gallon

'Gateway' is a popular cultivar of spotted Joe-pye weed that is more compact than the species, typically growing shorter (to 4–5' tall) and bushier. This erect, clump-forming perennial has coarsely serrated, lance-shaped leaves, typically in whorls on sturdy, wine-red stems. Tiny, dusky rose-pink flowers in huge compound inflorescenses bloom in mid-Summer to early Fall. Good for meadow plantings, as a structural planting, in pollinator gardens, or with ornamental grasses.

Spotted Joe-pye weed is widespread through much of the U.S. and Canada. It thrives in marshes, rich fens, and swamps, and in moist man-made expanses such as ditches, seepage areas, and wet fields. It is a larval host to various moths. Attracts butterflies and honeybees.
